- Turn on paid access
Ready to charge for hub access? This guide walks Connect → enable monetization → price → storefront / paywall, with fees stated once clearly.
Primary action: Hub → Monetization → Connect Stripe (when prompted).
When to use paid access
Paid access is optional. Free hubs stay first-class. Turn it on when you want to charge for access—often after interest shows up.
Overview: Features: Optional earning.
Prerequisites
- An account and a hub with the content you’re selling.
- Ready to complete Stripe Connect.
- Works on Free and Growth—selling is not Growth-gated. See when to upgrade and Plans for capacity limits, not for whether you can sell.
Step 1 — Connect Stripe
- Start Connect from monetization or billing flows in the app.
- Finish Connect before you can take charges.
- When Connect is charge-ready (
charges_enabled), you may show a verified creator check on profile or paywall. That badge is not an Explore ranking boost. See Features: Trust.
Step 2 — Enable monetization on the hub
- Open the hub → settings → Monetization (or
/monetization/:workspaceIdin the app). - Turn monetization on for that hub.
Step 3 — Set price and type
- One-time (ongoing access after purchase) or monthly subscription.
- Optional free trial where the product offers it.
- Prefer clear prices buyers understand (often USD).
Step 4 — Storefront / paywall
- Use Storefront settings for headline and listing copy buyers see before unlock.
- Configure peek vs locked content as the product allows.
- Non-buyers hitting
/hub/:idsee the paywall until they purchase (or complete a trial where offered).
Fees
Kahana: 5% platform fee on hub sales processed through Stripe Connect.
Stripe: processing fees apply separately (for example, US card rates are often about 2.9% + $0.30—confirm current rates in Stripe).
Growth does not remove the 5%. Growth is about capacity and support, not a lower marketplace fee.
Kahana does not hold your funds. Payouts go through Stripe Connect to you.
App legal pages under /legal/… (for example creator monetization) cover terms in the product.
After someone buys
- The buyer gets access after successful checkout (and trial rules if you offered one).
- Payouts are handled by Stripe.
- Track purchasers and views in hub Analytics; detailed dollars live in the Stripe Dashboard. Guide: Analytics for creators.
Adult + paid
Adult hubs still require login and age verification (date of birth, 18+) for buyers—even when monetized. See Adult content & age verification and Features: Trust.

Buying & access
Unlock a paid Kahana hub: find it, complete Stripe checkout, reopen it later, and understand one-time vs monthly—plus adult gates and why Aura isn’t payment.
Collaborators & roles
Invite people into a Kahana hub, choose OWNER · ADMIN · WRITE · COMMENT · READ, and accept an invite—without confusing collaborators with paywall buyers.
